French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the United Nations Security Council no longer produces useful solutions, reports the French Grand Continent.
“We must have two strong axes: it is necessary to rediscover the ways of useful international cooperation that avoids war, but makes it possible to meet our contemporary challenges; and it is necessary to build a much stronger Europe, with a weighty voice and principles in this renewed structure,” Macron stressed.
According to the President, “for cooperation to be established, the balanced poles must be able to give shape to this cooperation around a new multilateralism, that is, dialogue between different powers, which is necessary for joint solutions.”
“This means that the framework of multilateral cooperation is weakened today, because they are blocked: I have to note that the UN Security Council no longer offers useful solutions today. We all share a collective responsibility when some are held hostage in crises of multilateralism, such as WHO,” Macron said.
UN Security Council consists of 15 member states: 5 permanents (Great Britain, China, Russia, the USA and France) and 10 non-permanent, elected by the UN General Assembly for a two-year term, 5 each year.
