Malta’s Ambassador to Finland Michael Zammit Tabona resigned after comparing German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, Times of Malta reports.

During commemoration events held on May 8, and dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, Zammit Tabona wrote on his social network: “Seventy-five years ago we stopped Hitler. Who will stop Angela Merkel? She has fulfilled Hitler’s dream! To control Europe.”

Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo confirmed the ambassador’s resignation and noted that an apology for the “disrespectful” publication would be sent to the German embassy.

The Foreign Ministry also said that the Zammit Tabona’s comments do not reflect Malta – Germany mutual respect and friendship.

As you know, the publication aroused indignation and condemnation in the diplomatic and political circles of the country.
