Elections to the European Parliament are held every five years.
Today, May 23, the citizens of Great Britain and the Netherlands will vote. On Friday, May 24, polls will be held in Ireland and the Czech Republic, and on May 25, in Latvia, Malta and Slovakia.
In the rest of the EU countries, elections will take place on Sunday.
The procedure provides for the election of a proportional type only, provides for a method or an election of parties, or a system of a single transmitted vote, which makes it possible to be elected, small parties and individual candidates, and provides a fairly wide range of political positions among deputies.
During the European elections, most of the EU countries act as a single constituency. The five member states of the Union – Belgium, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, and France – divide their territories into several constituencies.
Earlier, the “Journalist” reported that after the elections to the European Parliament an emergency summit of the European Union will take place.
