Ukraine and the Russian Federation began the process of exchange of prisoners. This was announced by the newly elected Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Riaboshapka, having reposted on his Facebook page the corresponding message by the employee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Anna Islamova.
“Pray! The exchange was completed: Ukrainian sailors, Sentsov, Karpiuk, Balukh, Hrib fly home,” the note says.
In turn, the former deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ilia Ponomarev said that the exchange should take place on August 30, but did not provide details.
“Today there will be an exchange of prisoners. Keep your fingers crossed!,” Ponomarev wrote.
According to media, an airplane with political prisoners is expected to land in Kyiv today. The employees of the Kyiv airport said in a comment to Hromadsky that the passenger terminal does not expect flights from Russia in the coming hours.
Moreover, Krym/Realii, referring to the relatives of one of the sailors, reports that Ukrainian sailors have already been delivered to Kyiv as part of the Ukrainian-Russian exchange of prisoners. There is no confirmation on this information from other sources yet.
As The Journalist reported, Ukraine, Russia may swap prisoners by the end of the week.
