Mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov filed a lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights on violation of Article 5 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms «On the right to freedom and personal inviolability» of the person.
This is reported on the website of the Equity Law Firm, which represents Trukhanov. The suit is called "Trukhanov v. Ukraine ».
The statement contained complaints about the Trukhanov’s detention made by law enforcement officers in February 14, 2018 at the Kiev airport «Borispol».
«We have repeatedly spoken about the negative procedural consequences of the unlawful detention of Gennady Trukhanov and the violation of national legislation and international obligations by law enforcement agencies,» – said Alexander Lysak, Trukhanov’s lawyer.
Also the statement said, that the relevant complaint was accepted by the European Court of Human Rights on June 6.
«We believe that further fair consideration and a court decision will prompt law enforcement agencies to act within the framework of legal regulations and make illegal detention unlikely, as a negative national practice,» – Lysak added.
As «The Journalist» reported, the court allowed to return passport to the mayor of Odessa Truhanov.
