According to the European Union gas directive, it is possible to protest the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline construction. However, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is convinced that this cannot be done, DW reports.
The key issue in the construction of the second gas pipeline laid across the Baltic Sea bottom, in her opinion, is the Ukrainian issue, namely the importance of preserving the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine after construction is completed.
“Ukraine must remain a transit country despite Nord Stream,” Merkel said, and promised to discuss this issue with Volodymyr Zelensky.
As The Journalist reported, US Secretary of State said that the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline should not be completed.
