MFA: sailors who ‘stuck’ in Brazil a year ago returned to Ukraine

The sailors from the Srakane ship, who spent almost a year in the port of São Sebastian (São Paulo state, Brazil) have returned to Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the sailors were virtually isolated, they did not receive wages and could not return to Ukraine for almost a year.

Thanks to the coordinated work of the consuls, it became possible to establish contacts with the Brazilian competent authorities, promptly organize a visit to the vessel and ensure the provision of the necessary medical assistance to one of the Ukrainian sailors.

During July 2020, all sailors reportedly received wages and successfully returned home.
