The transfer of management processes and principles of functioning of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to a new doctrinal base until the end of 2022 is an ambitious goal of the recently launched stage of defense reform, Defense Minister Andriy Taran said during a video conference with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Larisa Galadza.

The head of the defense department stressed that this goal requires the training of specialists capable of acting in accordance with the provisions.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine should introduce a new style of military leadership, a new philosophy of relations in military collectives, as well as a change in military culture,” the minister stressed, noting that a vivid example of Canada’s support for defense reform and efforts to achieve this goal is the implementation of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of institutional defense reform, signed on August 19 between the defense departments of the two countries.

In addition, during the communication, the Canadian side presented the PROTECT project, which will strengthen institutional capacities and invest in human resources in order to further implement Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

Andriy Taran thanked the government of Canada and personally Larisa Galadza for the continued support of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the way to implement defense reform in accordance with NATO standards.
