Miners demand to pay off wage arrears and improve working conditions.

In Myrnohrad, Donetsk region, miners of the Kapitalna mine of the Mirnogradugol state-owned enterprise went to a protest over wage arrears. This was announced on Facebook page by the head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners Mykhailo Volynets.

“The miners of the largest of the state mines – Kapitalna State Enterprise Mirnogradugol – refused to go down into the mine in the first shift. A protest action began. Miners are moving to the city center. At 9 AM (local time) the action will start and the road will be blocked,” he wrote.

The main requirement of the miners is to pay off the debt and ensure stable wages for the miners of state enterprises.

The protesters also demand to ensure the proper level of sanitary and living conditions for work in the winter and the availability of the necessary protective equipment at work, to resolve the issue of shipping the accumulated products, to prevent the closure of state mines.

At present, about fifty miners are picketing the administrative building of Mirnogradugol.

According to information from trade unions, wage arrears to all state mines currently amount to about UAH 1.7 billion (over USD 60 million at the current exchange rate).
