Greek Defense Minister Nikos Toskas said that the large-scale wildfires, which, according to the latest data, killed 82 people in areas east of Athens, could be caused by arson.

According to the minister, such a probability is indicated by satellite images of the areas affected by the fire. The fate of another 30 people remains unknown, their search continues.

Now all fires, that posed a threat to residential areas, have been extinguished. Rescuers, as well as firefighter planes from Italy, Spain, Cyprus and Romania, have helped to overcome the disaster in Greece, Radio Liberty informs.

The official version of the cause of the fire, which began on July 23, has not been established yet. The mayor of the village of Penteli, located near the affected coastal settlements, said that the fire could cause sparks from the broken power line.

As The Journalist reported, after days of wildfires, on Greece collapsed a powerful storm.
