Ministry of Defense of Ukraine plans to start financing the development of a domestic OTRK (operational-tactical missile system) in 2021.
This was stated by Deputy Defense Minister for Armaments Oleksandr Myroniuk in an interview with Defense Express.
The development of the operational-tactical missile system Sapsan for the needs of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was carried out by the Pivdenne Design Bureau.
The work continued since 2010 with the support of the state budget and was subsequently discontinued, then the development of OTRK under the name Grom-2 was financed by a foreign customer, Ukrainian Military Portal reports.
Work on the development of a domestic operational-tactical complex was curtailed by the decision of the then Defense Minister Pavel Lebedev, who is now suspected of high treason.
“From 2021 it is planned to fund OTRK Sapsan, so that in the near future we will receive this necessary weapon for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Defense Minister said.
