The Ministry of Energy proposes to limit the gas price for vulnerable consumers at the “hub minus” level with the addition of a certain marginal profit of suppliers and fix such a price for a year from February 1. This was announced by the Acting Energy Minister Yuriy Vitrenko.
“According to our calculations, this is about the price at the level of UAH 5,360, that is, 44% less than the weighted average price in January. If nothing is done, then one should expect that the price in February will increase by about 15%,” the official said.
The price will be revised once a year based on stock exchange quotations in November, and this pricing is beneficial for the mining company.
According to the monitoring of gas prices for the population carried out on behalf of the Prime Minister in January, the main suppliers – regional gas supply companies – supply gas at a weighted average price of UAH 9,600 (in the range from UAH 6,990 to UAH 10,800), gas supply company “Naftogaz” – UAH 7,200.
According to Vitrenko, Naftogaz has the capacity to actively fight against the abuse of its dominant position by Russian Gazprom, and can file complaints with the European Antimonopoly Authority, and even initiate a new international arbitration under the agreement on the arrangement of transit, signed at the end of December 2019.
