As soon as the transition period will end, the Ministry of Defense will be headed by a man without military expirience. Stepan Poltorak will stay on post as the Head of the Defense department until the end of the transition period.
This was reported by the Ukraine’s Representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) for the Donbas settlement, First Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko.
«The Verkhovna Rada hs adopted the key law «On the National Security of Ukraine», which stipulates that the Minister of Defense must be a civilian. For the transitional period, President Poroshenko decided to extend Stepan’s Poltorak duties as the Defense Minister, who left the service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But soon, after the transition period, Ukraine will have a purely civilian minister, without an army past,» – Gerashchenko said.
The Parliamentarian also noted that the Ukrainian Parliament pays great attention to issues of gender equality in power structures.
«In the near future, will be adopted national legislation on mine action, which was developed taking into account the experience Croatia and other international partners of Ukraine,» – she added.
Separately, Gerashchenko reminded that Ukraine has received the right to hold the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Kyiv in 2020.
