Some 21 Belarusian IT service companies would like to move to Lithuania due to the current situation in the country, Delfi reports citing the Minister of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania Rimantas Sinkevičius, as saying.
According to the minister, about half of them are large and could settle in Lithuania instead of other European countries. However, they face difficulties in establishing offices there: banks are guided by the law on the prevention of money laundering and do not allow these companies to open accounts, which is a prerequisite for setting up businesses in Lithuania.
Based on the foregoing situation, Sinkevičius called for the adoption of amendments to the laws that would allow foreign legal entities to open accounts in Lithuanian banks.
