At least 325 illegal immigrants were detained in the US state of Arizona: 182 of them were children. According to the New York Post, all detainees come from Central America.
About 150 children crossed the border, accompanied by relatives, and 32 were walking unaccompanied. Immigrants were spotted after they lit a fire, trying to escape from the cold.
Two minors were hospitalized: a 5-year-old with chickenpox and a 12-year-old with a skin infection. Nothing threatens their lives.
“Trans-national criminal organizations exploit the vulnerability of foreign nationals with false promises of legal status,” such a statement was made by the state in connection with the incident.
