According to Ukrinform with reference to the publication Tvoy gorod, the day before, celebrated on August 23rd, Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, a team of Ukrainian climbers conquered the summit of Mount Mont Blanc and established a Ukrainian flag there.
This was told by one of the participants in the initiative, Andrei Rozhdestvensky.
According to the participants of the action, they wanted to establish the banner on August 24 – the day of the celebration of Independence Day of Ukraine. However, the weather dictated its conditions, and the solemn elevation of the banner took place the day before – August 23rd.
«We had a plan to establish a flag on Independence Day. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions, we did it on Flag Day. As a result, climbing, calculated for 2 days, had to be held in one day. The team scored and dropped more than 1700 meters in 16 hours», he said.
Mount Mont Blanc, located in the Western Alps, is the highest peak of Western Europe. Its height is 4810 m.
Let’s note, the action became a part of long-term tradition on an establishment by climbers-fans of the Ukrainian flag on Independence Day of Ukraine on different tops of the world. Participants of the expeditions undergo special training on the eve of each ascent to the mountains.
