Naftogaz needs USD 1 bln loan to prevent collapse of upcoming heating season in Ukraine

NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine needs to attract USD 1 billion of credit funds in order to fulfill the plan for pumping gas into underground gas storage facilities (UGS) for the upcoming heating season 2019/2020.

This was stated by the head of the company Andriy Kobolyev, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“We calculated that in order to maintain the stable pressure in case of a full stop of transit, we need at least 20 billion cubic meters of gas. Substantial amounts of gas are being pumped into the storage facilities is approximately 60 million cubic meters per day. At this rate, we can almost reach the goal, so the pace needs to be further rushed. In order to increase it, Naftogaz needs additional funds. We need at least USD1 billion of credit funds,” said Kobolyev.

The head of the company noted that there are several options of attracting the necessary amount. According to him, the Cabinet can solve the problem by paying Naftogaz at least a part of UAH 140 billion of debt of compensation to the company for imposing special obligations.

Kobolyev also expressed the hope that in the near future Naftogaz would be able to return to matter of issuing Eurobonds.

As The Journalist reported, gas prices for households may rise by 40% by October.
