The heads of the ministries of foreign affairs of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) at the April 3-4 summit in Washington intend to consider and approve a package of measures aimed at containing the threats that comes from the Russian Federation in the Black Sea region. This was stated by the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Hutchison stated that Russia continues to destabilize the situation in the Black and Azov Seas and called “absolutely unacceptable” detention of three Ukrainian warships in the Kerch Strait and holding sailors from these ships captive. The US Permanent Representative to NATO noted that the “aggressive behavior of the Russian Federation” will be discussed during the summit.
According to her, the developed package of measures will include aerial surveillance measures and an increase in the number of NATO ships in the Black Sea. Hutchison added that NATO intends to make the Black Sea area safe for the countries of the region despite “Russia’s obtrusiveness”.
“This package will strengthen aerial reconnaissance, as well as increase the number of NATO ships sailing to the Black Sea to guarantee the safe passage of Ukrainian ships through the Kerch Strait to the Sea of Azov,” the report said.
As The Journalist reported, Ukrainian cadets undergo training on the ships of the Alliance member countries within the framework of the NATO program.
