NATO fighters escorted 18 Russian military aircraft in international airspace over Baltic

NATO fighters have to escort 18 Russian military aircraft that were flying in the international airspace above the Baltic 11 times over the week. This was reported by the press center of the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania.

Russian military aircraft have been identified, which required escort for six days of the week (except Sunday). NATO patrol accompanied Russian aircraft listed below:

  • Su-24 bomber;
  • Su-24MR tactical reconnaissance plane;
  • Su-27 and Su-35 fighters;
  • An-12, An-24 transport aircraft;
  • Il-20 electronic warfare and reconnaissance aircraft;
  • IL-76 heavy military transport aircraft.

Most airplanes flew with the transponders (transmitter-responder is a receiving-transmitting device that sends a signal in response to a received signal – ed.) turned off, without a flight plan and did not communicate with Regional Mission Control Center.

As The Journalist reported, Ukraine to held large-scale exercises with NATO countries.
