NATO reports Russian submarines activity off the coast of Norway

North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) representative Oana Lungescu has announced the activity of Russian submarines in the North Atlantic and the Norwegian Sea. She stated this in an interview with the RND German media group.

NATO spotted up to ten Russian submarines at once off the coast of Norway. This year, Russian submarines activity has reached the highest level since the end of the Cold War. Lungescu emphasized that the Russian Federation is constantly building up its navy’s underwater potential.

North Atlantic Alliance representative stated that the North Atlantic is important for the security of Europe in terms of military supply routes, civilian trade routes and communication channels, and emphasized that NATO will respond to this with increased patrolling and investment in anti-submarine warfare.
