The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) determined that as of January 1, 2019, citizens had UAH 400.1 billion in cash turnover. This was reported by the press center of the NBU on Facebook.
As of the 1st January 2019 the amount of cash in hands accounted as such: 2.95 billion bills amounting to 397.8 billion hryvnias (USD $12.6 billion), 13.1 billion coins valued at UAH 2.2 billion hryvnias.
“This is 10.7% more than at the beginning of last year (UAH 361.5 billion as of January 1, 2018). The increase in demand for cash of the growing economy of Ukraine caused by the needs in the means of payment,” said the regulator.
It should be noted that the average number of banknotes per one Ukrainian is 69 pieces, and change coins – 293 pieces.
