Golden Lion of 76th Venice Film Festival went to the film «Roma» by Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón. About this informs Euronews.
«Roma» movie got its name because of the name of the quarter in Mexican capital, where, in the 1960s, film’s action takes place. It is noted that movie is based on author’s childhood memories. At the same time for the first time the highest award of the international festival of this level was a film originally intended for distribution not through cinemas, but through the Netflix platform.
We also note that the best actress was named by the jury members by the British artist Olivia Coleman, the best director was Jacques Audiard, the best actor was Willem Dafoe. Grand Prix of the jury was awarded to Greek Yorgos Lanthimos.
