NBU suffered UAH 12.3 bln loss due to strengthening of hryvnia

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), suffered a UAH 12.3 billion loss in January-September 2019 amid strengthening of the hryvnia against foreign currencies.

This was stated by the National Bank, referring to the interim condensed consolidated financial statements for 9 months.

Loss includes unrealized expenses from revaluation of financial instruments in foreign currency and monetary gold in the amount of UAH 42.4 billion, which will be offset by the revaluation reserve amounting to UAH 80.4 billion.

National Bank’s profit for distribution in late September amounted to about UAH 30 billion, at the established rate for transferring in the state budget of Ukraine for 2020 in amount of UAH 40.7 billion, the financial regulator notes.

In 2019, NBU transferred UAH 64.9 billion to the state budget for distribution according to the consolidated financial statements for 2018, which is UAH 17.3 billion more than the obligations of the National Bank in the state budget for 2019.

As The Journalist reported, Ukraine to introduce new banknotes and coins from Dec 20.
