Agriculture ministers of all 27 EU countries during the meeting in Luxembourg agreed to reform the new Common Agricultural Policy of the bloc to strengthen control over environmental and climate problems, Euronews reports.
According to the Minister of Agriculture of Germany Julia Klöckner, the ministers “came to a very important agreement.”
Thus, a balance among sustainable development issues, environmental restrictions and food safety was achieved in the EU. The adopted directives must be approved by the European Parliament before taking effect from January 2023.
“EU member states should also propose additional ‘environmental measures’ that go beyond mandatory environmental protection measures. It is assumed that any farmer who complies with these voluntary rules will receive additional funding,” the message reads.
