New Verkhovna Rada should continue implementation of reforms – EU

The European Union announced that they expect further implementation of important reforms from the Verkhovna Rada of new convocation.

This is stated in a statement by the speaker of the European External Relations Service, Maya Kosyancic.

“Following the presidential elections in March and April, the Ukrainian people have once again given a strong mandate for reform for the next five years. It is now the responsibility of the new authorities to meet the expectations of Ukraine’s citizens,” the statement said.

“According to the preliminary assessment of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, fundamental rights and freedoms were overall respected in the parliamentary elections. The campaign was competitive and the electoral administration was competent and effective,” Kocijančič is sure.

The EU report vote-buying and intertwined business and political interests that dictate media coverage of elections, as well as other malpractices, in particular in majoritarian districts.

The reforms include furthering the rule of law, fight against corruption, energy and macro-economic stability, to the benefit of Ukraine’s citizens.

The European Union remains unwavering in its support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

At the same time, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Andrii Melnyk, said that the Germany expects that the new government will be formed quickly and will begin to fulfill its duties after the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

“The German government welcomed the election results in Ukraine: Berlin expects that the new government in Ukraine will quickly assume its responsibilities and work on a reform program, including the fight against corruption. Germany will support Ukraine with its advice and deed on this path and in the future,” Melnyk said.
