The U.S. Senate has included additional sanctions against Nord Stream 2 in the 2021 draft defense budget, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
The authors of the proposal to expand sanctions were senators Ted Cruz, Jeanne Shaheen, Tom Cotton, Ron Johnson and John Barrasso. They believe that additional sanctions will accelerate the implementation of restrictions and will contribute to “ensuring national security” of the United States.
The draft defense budget should go through a conciliation commission and a vote in both houses of Congress. Then, it will be sent for signature to the U.S. president.
