The number of open remote IT jobs in Ukraine quadrupled over the past year and in December amounted to 40% of all market vacancies. If in January-February 2020 the market shown less than 10% of them, then at the end of the year almost every second open position offered work outside the office. This is evidenced by the data of the anonymous job search platform in IT and research of the company GlobalLogic, reports Journalist.

The growth in remote collaboration offers began in March and was fairly gradual throughout the year by 12-14% per month in average. The main jump was observed at the beginning of the quarantine, in April, with an increase of 54%, as well as in November-December by 29%, when the number of open IT positions reached record levels. More than 6k vacancies were published on jobs.dou.ua alone.

The increase in the number of remote jobs was influenced by quarantine: companies switched to remote mode and even open remove positions in locations where they do not have a representative office. For example, in October 2020, GlobalLogic offered remote cooperation to developers from Dnipro, where the company has no office. At the same time, during the quarantine period, 90% of all GlobalLogic employees perform their design tasks remotely.

“New specialists get to know the team and go onboarding online. Although after the end of quarantine, many of them will return to their offices, the trend of growth in remoted cooperation will remain. It opens up new opportunities and blurs boundaries for both companies and engineers,” commented Iryna Kononenko, Junior Vice President, Head of Talent Acquisition Group GlobalLogic in Ukraine.

The demand for IT professionals in the last quarter of 2020 grew by 50%, although it fell sharply in April. At the end of the year, vacancies in the field of information technology accounted for about 20% of the entire labor market. Also in 2020, IT has become one of the three areas that have been least affected by the coronavirus crisis.
