Former Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan has wished the ex-head of the State Agency for Roads of Ukraine (Ukravtodor), Slawomir Novak, to prove his innocence in the case of corruption in road construction.

“I want to wish Mr. Novak to prove his complete innocence and I want to assure him that Ukrainian citizens are grateful to him for the restoration and launch of the road construction system, the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs, the restoration of thousands of kilometers of roads,” Omelyan said.

At the same time, Omelyan stressed that he “has questions regarding the work of the ex-head of Ukrainian Railroads, also the Polish citizen, Wojciech Balczun.”

“During my work as Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, I worked with two citizens of Poland: Slawomir Nowak and Wojciech Balczun. I find the decision of law enforcement agencies to detain Mr. Novak strange, completely ignoring the results of Mr. Balczun’s “work”,” the ex-minister added.

According to Omelian, Novak is a close associate of Donald Tusk’s political opponent Andrzej Duda, who recently won the second round of the presidential elections in Poland by a 2% margin.

At the same time, Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy has said that a number of searches are currently underway in the offices of Ukravtodor, companies participating in tenders of the state agency, as well as at the place of residence of former officials of Ukravtodor and Polish citizens – alleged members of the criminal organization.

“I remember when I first met Mr. Slawomir Novak, they told me that this could be the first head of Ukravtodor to whom law enforcement would have no questions. Well, the miracle did not happen,” Krykliy said.
