Israel passes Jewish state bill

Parliamentary majority passed a bill, which define that the Jewish people have the exclusive right to national self-determination in the State of Israel. This is reported by Haaretz.
The report notes that the bill was approved with 62 voting in favor, while 55 parliamentarians opposed it.
According to available information, the constitutional law fixes declarative norms and enshrines Israel as the national home of the Jewish people, determines Hebrew as the country’s official language, and downgrades the Arabic language from official to «special» standing. The law also declares that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.
The state undertakes to take care of the welfare of Jews and Israelis abroad, and remains open to the repatriation of Jews from any country in the world.
Among other things, it was accepted that the Jewish and Gregorian calendars received an equal status of official, and the Shabbat and Jewish holidays were declared official holidays in Israel.
At the same time, representatives of other nationalities retain the right to use another day for the weekend.
