Deputies of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) began to consider the draft of the new constitution of the country. This is reported by Granma news agency.
It is reported that the discussion of the draft of the new fundamental law began on July 12 and was lasted for three days. After the deputies approved the document, it was submitted to a referendum.
The date of the popular vote has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be held before the end of the year.

«The new constitution confirms the socialist character of our political, economic and social system and the role of the Communist Party as the country’s leading force,» – said Secretary of the Council of State of Cuba, Homero Acosta.

It is also noted that the Constitution has recognized new forms of ownership, including private ones, but the provision on state ownership of the basic means of production and the planned nature of the economy will remain the same.

Recall that the current Constitution was adopted in Cuba in 1976, when the country was led by Fidel Castro (1926-2016).
