Poland calls for extraordinary EU summit on Belarus

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said that Poland is responsible for its closest neighbors, and wrote a letter to President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen with a request to convene an extraordinary summit of the European Council on events in Belarus, the website of the Polish government reports.

“After the presidential elections in Belarus on August 9, 2020, the authorities used force against their citizens, who are demanding change in the country. We must unanimously support the Belarusian people in their striving for freedom. Hence the initiative of the head of the Polish government for the Council of Europe to consider this issue,” the letter of the Prime Minister of Poland reads.
