Yesterday, June 27, The Parliament of Poland voted for the introduction of amendments to the law on the Institute of National Remembrance, that drops the criminalisation of tarnishing the country’s good name in the context of WWII crimes committed by Nazi Germany.
PM Mateusz Morawiecki had asked to augment the session’s agenda with the amendment to the Act on the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), Polskie Radio reported.
According to Morawiecki, the rules, which were went into effect on March 1, did not take into account the international realities, and penalising clauses had begun to work in a «counterproductive way».
«We do not refuse anything, we realized much more than we have envisaged», – the Head of Government said.
The Senate passed the amended act in a 76-1 vote with one abstention.
President Andrzej Duda has signed into law an amendment to the law on the Institute of National Memory, adopted by the Polish Sejm.
It should be noted that these norms entered into force on March 1 and were the subject of disputes in Israel, the United States and Ukraine.
As «The Journalist» reported, the Polish Sejm urged the Kremlin to free Ukrainian political prisoners.
