Stepan Poltorak said this after his visit to the Presidential Administration where he was invited by newly elected President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, May 21, Ukrinform reports.

“I will work as acting [defense minister] until the Verkhovna Rada makes a decision. Because when the country is in a state of war, it is very dangerous to leave the Armed Forces without coordination of the management system and without leadership,” said Poltorak.

He also added that he had waited for Zelensky to swore an oath to the people of Ukraine, and then he filed a report.

“As for my work […] I did everything possible so that we could create an army within five years. And I’m definitely not ashamed to look into your eyes and into eyes of all Ukrainians,” the minister stressed.

As The Journalist reported, Poltorak filed a resignation letter.
