The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Stepan Poltorak, has stated that the Russian Federation set a goal to provoke Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait to open fire in order to start open aggression against Ukraine. This was reported by 112 Ukraine news agency.
“One of the tasks that Russia set itself when organizing a provocation in the Kerch Strait was to provoke us [Ukraine – ed.] to respond, so that we could start shooting, and Russia was going to use this opportunity to start open aggression against Ukraine,” said Poltorak.
According to the minister, the second goal was to force Ukraine to abandon the passage through the Kerch Strait into the Sea of Azov and, in fact, to annex the Sea of Azov.
Poltorak noted that Ukraine would not give up its legal right to pass through the Kerch Strait given to her in accordance with all international obligations to the law of the sea, international treaties.
As The Journalist reported, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak stated that Ukraine should complete reforming Ministry of Defense in coming year.
