As The Journalist reported, the presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky said that he agreed to debate with the current president of Ukraine, but on condition to hold it at the NSC Olymoiyskiy.
In turn, the incumbent President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko agreed to Zelensky’s proposal to hold debate at the stadium in Kyiv.
However, Poroshenko noted that rules of the debate are stipulated in the Presidential Election Law and advised Zelensky to read them first, adding that “debate is not a show”.
“It can be held on the basis of public television with broadcast on all television channels for tens of millions of people. If it’s the stadium – let it be the stadium. I am looking forward to seeing you, Volodymyr Oleksandrovych,” said Poroshenko in a video message.
In addition, the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine has the technical ability to broadcast from the Olympic Stadium, but it cannot be called a debate, Hromadske informs with reference to the press service of the Broadcasting Company.
According to the provision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) on debate as of 2014, debates are held in the studio (room) of the national broadcaster.
“So now the final decision is for the CEC. If they adopt a new position in which they exclude this provision, then debates are possible. If not, it will be a show, or a discussion, but not a debate,” the report says.
The press service of the NSC Olimpiyskiy stated that they did not receive proposals for debates.
