Ihor Rainin, once the head of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s Administration, has been elected chairman of the Kharkiv Oblast chamber of the Opposition Platform – For Life.
Such a decision was made on November 27, at a conference of a regional party organization, Opposition Platform noted.
During the presentation, the co-chair of the Opposition Platform Yurii Boyko noted Rainin’s high professionalism, experience and organizational skills. Boyko emphasized that earlier Rainin, when governed the Kharkiv Oblast, defended the interests of southeast residents and opposed the policy of radical nationalism.
Mr Rainin thanked for the support and emphasized the need for quality preparation for the upcoming local elections.
“We have an election year ahead, elections to local councils. This is a multi-layer campaign that requires clear joint action,” the politician said.
At the same time, the co-chair of the European Solidarity faction Iryna Herashchenko commented on Rainin appointment, calling the ex-head of Poroshenko’s Administration “a man in a case”.
“Being in opposition is a good time to lose ideological or situational fellow travelers, “people in the case”. I am the supporter of the fact that the party should be based on ideology, not on its belonging to power. Perhaps that is why I personally joined the party already being in the opposition, when only ideological fighters stayed there. Cleaning the party ranks makes the team stronger,” the representative of European Solidarity said.
