Russia’s purpose is to occupy the Azov Sea, the same way it did Crimea. President Petro Poroshenko announced this in an interview with The Washington Post, the Presidential press service reported.

«This is a brutal violation of international law, and we cannot accept . We are strengthening our military there and launching a case against Russia in the international Permanent Court of Arbitration,» – the report said.

The President focused on the legal status of the Sea of Azov. He stressed that it is necessary to impose sanctions in order to stop the potential danger of Russian occupation in the region.

«Russia has no right to attack or stop our vessels carrying goods and passengers from two important Ukrainian ports, Mariupol and Berdyansk. If Russia does not stop, we have only one instrument which is sanctions. If they block the ship with Ukrainian metal products from Mariupol for one day, the damages will be thousands of dollars,» – the president said.

As The Journalist reported earlier, US said Russia’s actions in the Sea of Azov is attempt to destabilize Ukraine.
