The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is awaiting for a prompt investigation on the emergency situation that occurred at the ammunition depots near Ichnia (Chernihiv Oblast).
The Head of State said this after hearing a report from the security officials, the presidential press service informs.
The Head of State stressed that he expects a prompt, but responsible investigation of the emergency situation.
«I want to emphasize separately that I am waiting for prompt results of the investigation. And very responsible,» – Poroshenko said, addressing the Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoliy Matios and First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vitaliy Malikov.
The President particularly emphasized that the situation when «there were simultaneously detonations of three warehouses, as well as six more depots detonated 20 minutes later,» in which not small arms or unpacked ammunition, but rockets for multiple launch systems were stored, requires careful investigation.
«Given the proximity to the Russian border, it is not a coincidence that the main version of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Military Prosecutor’s Office is sabotage,» – Poroshenko noted.
The President said that all those who ensured the protection of the unit at night when explosions occurred should be checked.
«We must fully and thoroughly study this experience today in order to prevent the repetition of the attack of the enemy’s sabotage and reconnaissance groups,» – Poroshenko stressed.
«Following the results of the investigation, we must make proposals on bringing the perpetrators to justice,» – the president added, stressing the importance of bringing to responsibility those whose actions had led to an emergency situation in Chernihiv Oblast.
It is noted that the President paid special attention to the issue of providing all the necessary assistance to the evacuees from the surrounding villages and settlements, emphasizing the importance of protecting people.
«Any needs, any help to the sick and children – this should now be our first priority,» – Poroshenko stressed and instructed the Head of the Presidential administration to check the accommodation facilities for evacuees and provide them with everything they need.
