New Zealand has completed the construction of a «humane» prison for especially dangerous prisoners who have mental illnesses, reports The Guardian.
«Clients» of the new prison in Auckland would be men, criminals with mental illnesses, the number of which in New Zealand is growing year by year. For them, specialists have developed various therapeutic programs.
In this penitentiary institution, prisoners will be offered to work in a sensory garden where they can walk barefoot on fresh grass and plant plants.
In addition, the inmates of the prison will be able to do yoga in spacious cells, which, among other things, have a TV.
Note that the place of imprisonment was developed in order to act as a «de facto mental health unit». Before the emergence of a specialized organization, mentally unhealthy men had to wait long until a place was vacated in the psychiatric ward.
