The passenger Boeing 737 MAX 8, belonging to the local Lion Air low-cost airline, has crashed being on its way from Jakarta to the island of Pangkal Pinang. This was reported by Reuters news agency.

The plane fell into the sea not far from the island of Java, almost immediately after takeoff. Contact with the aircraft was lost 13 minutes after take-off, the crew of one of the ships saw it fall into the water.
It became known that there were 189 people on board – 181 passengers, seven crew members and a child.

«We don’t know yet whether there are any survivors. Rescuers reported a huge fuel stain and a debris of aircraft fragments in the water at the crash site: parts of the fuselage, passenger seats, passenger luggage,» the message says.

Boeing 737 has sank at a depth of 30-35 meters; now the seabed is explored by divers in order to find the plane’s black boxes.
It is reported that the liner was brand new, in excellent technical condition.
