President Petro Poroshenko signed the law «on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine concerning the creation of economic preconditions for enhancing the protection of children’s right to proper maintenance.»

According to the press service of the Head of the State, the document amends the current legislation, providing for the protection of children’s right and their proper material support, especially those raised in single-parent families.

The law specifies the peculiarities of impact on debtors who are in arrears in paying alimony for the maintenance of children with disabilities and children who have certain serious illnesses, given that late payment of alimony has especially negative consequences for children of this vulnerable category.

The document establishes an effective mechanism for bringing persons to liability for non-payment of alimony and evasion of offenders from the prescribed penalty for non-payment of alimony.

The law establishes that non-payment of alimony for the maintenance of a child for six months from the day of presentation of an executive document to compulsory execution entails the performance of public works for a period of 120 to 240 hours.

As The Journalist reported, legal education affects the formation of civil society if the law system is effective.
