The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko said that criminal proceedings had been opened against the owners of the NewsOne TV channel on the fact of financing terrorism.
“As part of the existing factual case of treason referring to various displays by various institutions, after the announcements of the so-called “direct TV link-up” between the sub-authorized Russian state television channel and the NewsOne TV channel, an additional episode on preparing for high treason had been initiated”, Lutsenko said.
The Prosecutor General stressed that the cancellation of the announced teleconference would not affect in any way the investigation of this case opened by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to Lutsenko, the GPU do not exclude that the owners of the NewsOne TV channel may be involved in financing of terrorism. So, there is every reason to deprive NewsOne of a broadcasting license, as UNIAN reports.
“I believe there is every reason for the National Security and Defense Council to make a decision on depriving (the TV channel) of a license in strict accordance with the law on the licensing”, the prosecutor general empathized.
