According to BBC Ukraine, rare lynxes were photographed in the Carpathians.

The author of photos is Miron Maretsky, who has been traveling through the Ukrainian mountains for many years, photographing nature and animals.

He told the publication that he saw lynx for the second time in his life. At first he thought they were wolves. Then he looked closely and took photos – he was at a distance of 50-80 m from the animals. He did not give the exact encounter coordinates, fearing for their lives.

This species of animals is listed in the Red Book. According to the World Wildlife Fund, there are only about 500 such individuals left in Ukraine.

“Unlimited hunting and deforestation have led to the fact that the species comes across only in some forest areas,” noted in the fund.
