Rescued sailors from Arvin dry cargo ship returned to Ukraine

January 20, 5 Ukrainian sailors, members of the crew of the dry cargo ship Arvin, which sank on January 17 in the Black Sea off the coast of Turkey, arrived in Odesa.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the head of the consular department of the Ukrainian Embassy in Turkey Andriy Bilyk.

“At 4:35A our citizens, members of the crew of the dry cargo ship Arvin, took off from Ankara on the Ankara-Istanbul-Odesa route. At 9A, their plane arrived,” Bilyk said.

According to him, yesterday each of the rescued members of the dry cargo ship’s crew talked with representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Transport as part of the investigation of the incident.

“Testimonies were taken from the guys without a protocol regarding the circumstances of the incident. At about 10P these procedures were completed,” the consul added.

Recall, on January 17, in the Black Sea off the coast of the Turkish province of Bartin due to bad weather, the dry cargo ship Arvin crashed and sank. The vessel was under the flag of Palau and with a crew of 12 was sailing from the Georgian port of Poti to the Bulgarian Burgas with a cargo of saltpeter. It belonged to the Ukrainian company Arvin Shipping LTD.
