The dispute over the name of the former Yugoslav Republic was resolved during a phone call between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zayev. The country’s name would be changed to the Republic of Northern Macedonia,- reported by «Strana.ua».
«This historic agreement is the result of many years of patient diplomacy and to the willingness of these two leaders to solve a dispute which has affected the region for too long», – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.
It is noted the necessity to finalise the agreement achieved by both countries.
Recall that the dispute the use of the name "Macedonia" between two states lasted for more than 25 years, since Greece believed that the Republic of Macedonia could make territorial claims over the Greek region of Macedonia.
