Largest Christian church in the world has changed its teaching on the issue of the death penalty, recognizing it as «unacceptable» regardless of any circumstances, informs Sky News.

The Holy See officially declares that the Roman Catholic Church has changed its universal catechism, which now reflects the full position of Pope Francis on the issue of capital punishment.

«The death penalty is inadmissible, because it is an encroachment on the inviolability and dignity of the individual».

It is worth noting that the new position is expected to receive harsh criticism from Catholics in the United States and other countries with a Catholic population where the death penalty is legal and where many believers support such a penalty.
Recall that the Catholic Church over the centuries allowed the death penalty in extreme cases, but began to change its position under Pope John Paul II, who died in 2005.
