The Commander of of the Navy Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ihor Voronchenko, said that Russia is seeking to legalize Black Sea off Crimea’s coast and is building up its fleet.

The admiral stressed that for 250 years, Russia has sought to dominate the Black Sea region and outlined the goals that the aggressor country pursues after the events in the Kerch Strait (after capturing 24 Ukrainian sailors), UNIAN informs.

“Three goals are observed. The first one is to legalize Black Sea off Crimea’s coast. The second is to dominate and create the most powerful formation on the territory of the autonomous republic. The third is to influence the countries of the Black Sea region and attempts to interfere in their internal affairs,” said Voronchenko.

According to the admiral, the Russian Federation is building up the power of the Black Sea Fleet, in particular, its group, which is stationed in the Crimea – mostly they are Caliber cruise missiles carriers.

“Now their total salvo is 86 ships, and according to our data, they will try to increase this potential to 168 missiles in the salvo by 2020. The second is the creation by Russia of a strong grouping in the Sea of Azov – about 105 boats and ships carrying out tasks allegedly protecting their borders, which is absent,” the Commander stated.

As The Journalist reported, Poroshenko proposed EU to develop package of socio-economic assistance for Priazove.
