Russia opposes the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission throughout the whole of the area of occupied Donbas

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia is against of Ukraine and the US proposal a UN peacekeeping mission take control throughout the whole of the area of occupied Donbas for organizing elections.

Lavrov reported this after the talks of the «Norman format» at the level of Foreign Ministers, UNIAN reported.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, in September 2017 a resolution was submitted to the UN Security Council and aimed at providing UN security for observers working through OSCE.

«We explained that ideas put forward by US and Ukrainian representatives to convert this peacekeeping mission into a sort of military-political commandant’s headquarters to take control over the whole territory of proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk Republics and which will decide on its own, who will be elected and in what way, completely ruins Minsk Agreements», – Lavrov said.

According to Lavrov, American colleagues put forward some abstract ideas, which, in his opinion, do not fall on paper.

As «The Journal» reported earlier, the US stated UN peacekeepers should replace Russian troops in Donbas.
