The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, former Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsia, at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, has said that Russia issued more than 200,000 passports to Ukrainians in the occupied part of Donbas.

According to him, Russia “has reached an industrial level” of illegal passportization in the temporarily occupied territory of Donbas.

“More than 200,000 people were granted with Russian passports,” the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN said.

In addition, Russia sent more than 4,000 tons of weapons and ammunition to the occupied Donbas in 2019.

“We must not lose sight of the wider context of Russian armed aggression against Ukraine,” Kyslytsia emphasized.

It is known that over 6 years of the Russian military invasion of the Donbas, more than 13,000 people were deprived of their lives and more than 27,000 were injured. Also, more than 1,4 million residents of Donbas became IDPs.

“The occupied territories have turned into a land of fear and terror. The local economy is destroyed, the equipment of local enterprises is broken or moved to Russia. More than 2,3 million people need humanitarian assistance this year,” Kyslytsia said.

The diplomat also said that, according to the UN, the territory of eastern Ukraine has become one of the most mine-contaminated territory in the world.

“The Russian Federation continues to provide militants with arms, regular troops and mercenaries to such a size that they now overshadow many small European armies,” said Kislitsa.

To various estimates, Russian-led forces consist of about 500 tanks, 1,000 IFVs and about 800 artillery systems. In 2019, the Russian Federation sent more than 4,000 tons of ammunition to the occupied territory of Donbas.
