Mikheil Saakashvili, Head of Executive Committee for Reforms of Ukraine, said on the air of the Right to Power program that Ukraine is potentially strong to refuse to cooperate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the future, since the tranches received just enough to pay off the external debts.

“Of course, there are many different influences today. It seems to me that we are now obliged to cooperate with the IMF despite the fact how much money they give us! They give us exactly enough money to simply pay off the external debts,” Saakashvili said.

According to him, at one time in Georgia he refused to cooperate with the IMF.

“I think that Ukraine is strong enough potentially to give it up. But of course, not for the purpose of returning the old thieves, but in order to carry out reforms and changes in a civilized way. And in this sense, we are still ahead,” Saakashvili is convinced.

He also believes that a public-private partnership model can become an outlet for the Ukrainian economy in a crisis.

“We must especially enhance this partnership with small and medium-sized businesses and say: the state can perform only these functions. All other functions can only be done together with people who create the prosperity of this country and create 80% of jobs,” Saakashvili said, adding that he plans to propose to the National Council of Reforms a draft law that would regulate the mechanism of public-private partnership in Ukraine.
